When you purchase one of our wood fired pizza oven kits, you purchase all the same components that go into making our pre-assembled ovens, all of which are made to professional standards. Just because you’re buying a DIY wood fired pizza kit, it doesn’t mean that you are buying an inferior product.

Please note that our kits do not include a stand. Our ovens are manufactured to last a lifetime and therefore, we do not recommend building them on a temporary, cheap frame. We do build a basic, heavy duty galvanized steel stand for our ovens which can be purchased separately. Please see our accessories page to view our range of DIY pizza oven kit accessories.

FAQS.

Why should I choose a DIY wood fired pizza oven kit?

Our DIY Kit pizza ovens are hand-made in our Western Australian factory from the highest quality refractory materials.

Our wood fired pizza oven DIY kits are one of the only kits available in Australia that come complete with all materials needed to build and finish the oven. With step-by-step instructions and all materials pre-cut and renders pre-mixed, the guess work is taken out of construction, keeping your assembly time to a minimum. When you purchase one of our DIY wood fired pizza oven kits, you purchase all the same quality components that we would use if building a pre-assembled oven - they are just put together by you. Our DIY wood fired oven kits are some of the best kits in Australia and putting it together yourself won’t sacrifice any of the high quality craftmanship you can expect from us.

Are Alfresco Factory DIY pizza ovens easy to assemble?

The vast majority of the ovens we sell are DIY pizza oven kits to regular people all around Australia, with limited handyman experience.

Our DIY kits are made up of 3 major components - a one-piece refractory cast shell (not hundreds of bricks to put together!), a one-piece front arch and pre-cut floor insulation and floor fire bricks.  All other materials required to finish the oven are supplied with the kit and are pre-cut and pre-mixed.  All you need to do is place the components on your stand, join them together using the join mix we supply, cover the oven with an insulation blanket and chicken wire (also supplied with the kit) and apply your two coats of render (again, supplied with the kit - all quantities measured out for you).  All that is required is to add water (and a little bit of elbow grease!).  With no more than 17 steps to follow to construct any of our DIY oven models, our DIY kit instructions are accompanied by detailed photos, making assembly super-easy and keeps construction time to a minimum.

Also supplied with the DIY kit is a 1m length of stainless-steel flue and cap, an oven door and a two-piece tool set.

When you purchase an Alfresco Factory DIY wood fired oven kit, there is no need to purchase anything else to finish or start using the oven (except, of course, wood!).

How long does it take to assemble an Alfresco Factory DIY wood fired oven kit?

The Alfresco Factory wood fired oven kits take about 6 hours to assemble from start to finish - this includes drying time between renders (dependent, of course, on the weather). Many of our customers choose to assemble their Alfresco Factory DIY kits over a 2-day period; assembling the oven the first day and applying the two render coats the following day.

How many pizzas can I cook in your oven at one time?

While our Original Oven size models can comfortably fit 5-6 standard pizzas (300mm), it would be rather tricky to handle cooking that many! For home use, we’d recommend cooking around two pizzas at a time. Here at The Alfresco Factory, we also manufacture commercial-sized ovens that can hold 16 pizzas or 10 full size baking trays with a wider mouth to accommodate two chefs operating the oven at one time. See below the various sizes our DIY pizza ovens can hold, which are suitable for most Australian backyards.

Original = 5-6 x 300mm pizzas
Midi = 3 x 300mm pizzas
Courtyard = 2 x 300mm pizzas

What can I cook in my oven?

Wood fire has powered ovens long before we mastered the use of gas and electricity and so anything you can think of cooking in a traditional oven, a wood fired oven will also be able to handle. Our oven design also utilizes a door to maximise heat control, allowing you to use them for stewing, roasting, baking, frying, smoking, grilling, cooking pizzas, breads and even desserts.

Can we have our ovens outside without a cover?

Yes. While our range of wood fired ovens have been designed for the outdoors, it is very important that they remain dry and moisture is kept out to ensure your oven continues to work efficiently. When choosing a site to construct your wood fired pizza oven kits, it’s important to consider the Australian elements. If your oven is in a place where it is exposed, we recommend that you apply a natural look penetrating concrete sealer to the external render after the curing process is complete and to any porous materials surrounding your oven, such as your stand and slab, which may also absorb water and cause your oven to become wet. Sealers such as Crommelins Natural Diamond Coat Paving and Concrete Sealer or Dunlop Premium Natural Look Sealer can be purchased from Bunnings.

Acrylic render products such as Dulux Acratex Coventry Coarse can also be applied as a sealer, with the added benefit of being able to change the render colour without having to remove the render provided with your oven.

See one of our Alfresco ovens in action at Dawson’s Garden World in Forrestfield. This oven gets watered with the plants twice a day and sits under un-guttered eaves and has not been weather-damaged, making it a testament to the longevity and quality of our ovens.
